By creating an account and using Recovery Transparency ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. You must be at least 18 years of age to use this App. The App serves two types of users: (a) Individual Users who use the App for personal recovery tracking and participation, and (b) Organization Administrators ("Organizations") who access the App solely through an administrative dashboard to monitor client participation data. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
Individual Accounts: Individual users engage directly with the App's recovery tools, including daily check-ins, journaling, assessments, Fourth Step inventory, and sponsor connections. All personal content created by individual users belongs to them. Organization Accounts: Organizations — including sober living facilities, recovery residences, employers, and peer support programs — access the App exclusively through an administrative dashboard. Organizations do NOT have access to the recovery tools themselves. Organizations can only view participation-level data for clients who have voluntarily joined their organization and provided informed consent. Platform Administration: Recovery Transparency Technologies, LLC ("Platform Admin") maintains administrative access for platform operations, user approval, and system maintenance. For internal analytics and reporting purposes, the Platform Admin utilizes only de-identified, aggregate data that has been stripped of personally identifiable information (PII). Identifiable data is accessed only for essential technical operations such as account management, user approval, and system maintenance, and is never used for marketing, research, or shared with third parties in identifiable form.
The App is a supplementary self-awareness and accountability tool for individuals in 12-step recovery programs. It is NOT medical advice, NOT therapy, NOT mental health treatment, NOT a substance abuse treatment program, and NOT a substitute for professional help of any kind. It does NOT provide diagnosis, clinical assessment, or treatment recommendations. No sponsor-sponsee relationship facilitated by this App constitutes a clinical or therapeutic relationship. Organization access to participation data does NOT constitute clinical monitoring, treatment oversight, or a provider-patient relationship. You should always consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical, psychiatric, or addiction treatment needs.
This App has NO emergency or crisis response capability. It is not monitored in real time and cannot respond to emergencies. Neither the App nor any Organization viewing participation data has the ability to intervene in a crisis. If you are in crisis, experiencing suicidal thoughts, or facing a medical emergency: • Call 911 immediately • Call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) • Call SAMHSA National Helpline: 1-800-662-4357 Do NOT rely on this App in an emergency situation.
The App uses artificial intelligence (powered by Anthropic Claude) to analyze your self-reported data and generate insights, scores, and recommendations. All AI-generated content — including but not limited to awareness scores, character defect and spiritual principle analyses, journal insights, assessment summaries, Recovery Transparency Index (RTI™) scores, fear inventory analyses, and service work suggestions — are computer-generated interpretations, NOT professional assessments. AI can produce inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading results. AI outputs should be used as reflective tools only and must not be used as the basis for clinical, medical, or life decisions. Organizations must not use AI-generated scores or participation data as the sole basis for clinical, housing, employment, or legal decisions regarding any individual.
Organizations that have been approved and have active client relationships may view the following participation-level data for consenting clients ONLY: • Activity counts (number of check-ins, journals, assessments completed) • Completion dates and last active timestamps • Check-in streaks and consistency metrics • Recovery Transparency Index (RTI™) category scores (numerical scores only) • Sponsor connection status (connected or not — no sponsor identity disclosed) • General participation status (active/inactive) Organizations can NEVER access: • Journal entry text or content • Assessment question-level answers • Fourth Step inventory entries (resentments, fears, sex inventory, sane/sound) • Messages between users (sponsor/sponsee or peer communications) • Gratitude list content • AI-generated narrative analyses or insights • Any free-text content entered by the user Organizations agree not to attempt to access, extract, or reconstruct any protected content beyond what is provided through the Organization dashboard. Violation of these terms will result in immediate termination of the Organization account.
Individual users must provide explicit, informed consent before joining any Organization. At the time of joining, users are clearly informed of exactly what participation data will be visible to the Organization and what data remains private. Consent is voluntary — no user may be required to join an Organization as a condition of using the App. Users may leave any Organization at any time through their Settings. Upon leaving, the Organization immediately loses access to all of that user's data. Users may also revoke consent at any time without penalty. Organizations may not condition housing, employment, treatment, or any other benefit on a user's continued participation in App monitoring, except as independently agreed upon outside of this App.
Your self-reported data (including journal entries, check-in selections, assessment responses, Fourth Step inventory content, fear inventory entries, and messages) is sent to Anthropic, a third-party AI service provider, for processing and analysis. The App is hosted on Vercel and uses Supabase for data storage and authentication. We are not responsible for the practices, security, or availability of these third-party services. Use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
By using the App, you consent to the collection, storage, and AI analysis of data you provide. Your data may be shared with your designated sponsor if you grant them access. If you join an Organization, limited participation data (as described in Section 6) will be visible to that Organization's administrator. You can revoke sponsor access, leave an Organization, and request data deletion at any time. See the Privacy Policy below for full details on how your data is collected, used, stored, and shared.
The Recovery Transparency Index (RTI™) is a proprietary assessment framework. RTI™ and all associated methodologies, scoring algorithms, prompts, and materials are the intellectual property of the App owner. You may not reproduce, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on the RTI™ or any App content without prior written permission.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE APP OWNER, DEVELOPERS, OPERATORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF DATA, PERSONAL INJURY, OR ANY DECISIONS MADE BASED ON APP CONTENT OR AI-GENERATED OUTPUTS. THIS LIMITATION APPLIES EQUALLY TO INDIVIDUAL USERS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND ANY THIRD PARTY.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the App owner, developers, operators, and their respective affiliates, officers, agents, and employees from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including attorney fees) arising from: (a) your use of the App; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your reliance on any content or AI-generated output provided by the App; (d) any harm resulting from decisions you make based on App content; or (e) for Organizations, any actions taken regarding clients based on participation data obtained through the App.
You assume all risk associated with your use of the App and your reliance on its outputs. You are solely responsible for your recovery decisions and actions. You acknowledge that the App is not a replacement for a sponsor, therapist, counselor, or medical professional. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. Organizations are responsible for ensuring their use of participation data complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards, including but not limited to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and any applicable state privacy laws.
Organization access to the Platform is governed by a separate Service Agreement ("Agreement") executed between the Organization and Recovery Transparency Technologies, LLC ("Company"). The Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties with respect to Organization access and supersedes all prior negotiations, representations, or agreements relating thereto. No Organization account shall be provisioned, activated, or granted access to the Platform until a fully executed Agreement is in place. The Agreement shall specify, among other terms, the authorized number of client user seats, the service term, applicable fees, payment schedule, and any additional terms specific to the Organization's use case. The App is provided free of charge to individual users. Individual user access is not contingent upon any Organization's contractual status, and termination or expiration of an Organization Agreement shall have no effect on the accounts, data, or access rights of individual users.
All fees, payment schedules, and billing terms are set forth exclusively in the Organization's executed Service Agreement. Organizations agree to remit payment in accordance with the terms specified therein. Failure to remit payment within the timeframe specified in the Agreement shall constitute a material breach. Upon such breach, the Company reserves the right to: • Issue written notice of non-payment and provide a cure period as specified in the Agreement • Suspend Organization dashboard access upon expiration of the cure period • Terminate the Agreement and permanently revoke Organization access if payment remains outstanding • Pursue collection of all amounts due, including accrued interest, late fees, and reasonable costs of collection (including attorney fees and court costs) Suspension or termination of Organization access due to non-payment does not relieve the Organization of its obligation to pay all fees accrued through the date of termination.
A material breach of the Service Agreement or these Terms by either party shall entitle the non-breaching party to pursue all remedies available at law or in equity.
Each party acknowledges that in the course of the Organization's use of the Platform, it may receive or have access to confidential information of the other party. Organizations shall maintain the confidentiality of all client participation data and Platform information using at least the same degree of care used to protect their own confidential information. These confidentiality obligations shall survive termination or expiration of the Agreement for a period of three (3) years.
The Platform is a voluntary recovery engagement and accountability tool. It is expressly NOT a clinical, medical, diagnostic, or therapeutic service. The Platform does not currently maintain HIPAA-compliant infrastructure certifications. The Company does not act as a Business Associate, as defined under HIPAA (45 CFR 160.103), to any Organization, covered entity, or individual user. The Platform should NOT be used to store, transmit, or process Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined under HIPAA (45 CFR 160.103). Organizations that are covered entities or business associates under HIPAA are solely responsible for determining whether their use of the Platform complies with their own HIPAA obligations.
Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved first through good-faith negotiation, then non-binding mediation in the State of North Carolina, and finally litigation in state or federal courts located in North Carolina. The prevailing party in any litigation shall be entitled to recover its reasonable attorney fees and costs from the non-prevailing party.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. Individual users may delete their account at any time through the Settings page, which will permanently remove their data from our systems.
Neither party shall be liable for any failure or delay in performing its obligations under these Terms where such failure or delay results from circumstances beyond the reasonable control of that party.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will require re-acceptance before you can continue using the App.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Effective Date: March 4, 2026
We collect information you provide directly, including: For Individual Users: • Account information (email address, full name, program code) • Daily check-in selections (character defects and spiritual principles) • Journal entries and gratitude lists • Weekly assessment responses • Fourth Step inventory (resentments, fears, sex inventory, sane/sound entries) • Messages sent to your sponsor, sponsees, or fellow members • Sobriety date • Weekly schedule data • Precise location data (GPS coordinates for meeting attendance verification) For Organization Administrators: • Organization name, type, and contact email • Administrator account information (email address, full name) We also collect technical data such as device type and browser information for security purposes.
Your data is used to: • Provide personalized recovery insights through AI analysis • Calculate awareness scores, defect/principle scores, and RTI™ assessment scores • Enable sponsor visibility of aggregated insights (with your permission) • Provide participation-level data to Organizations you have voluntarily joined (with your explicit consent) • Verify meeting attendance through GPS location data • Track your progress over time • Send administrative communications and program updates (if opted in) • Generate de-identified, aggregate analytics for platform improvement • Improve the App and its features
Your self-reported text data — including journal entries, check-in data, assessment answers, Fourth Step inventory content, fear inventory entries, and messages — is sent to Anthropic's API (Claude AI) for analysis. Anthropic processes this data to generate insights, scores, and recommendations. Anthropic's data retention and usage policies apply to data sent to their API. We use Supabase for database storage and authentication, and Vercel for application hosting. Your data is stored and processed through these services. We use Stripe and Apple In-App Purchase for payment processing. Payment information is handled directly by these services and is never stored on our servers. We do NOT sell your personal data to any third party.
If you connect with a sponsor, they can see: aggregated defect/principle scores, awareness scores, check-in streaks, assessment category scores, and Fourth Step data you explicitly send to them. Sponsors cannot see: raw journal entries (unless you share them), private notes, or your login credentials. You can revoke sponsor access at any time through Settings.
If you voluntarily join an Organization, that Organization's administrator can view participation-level data only, including: activity counts, completion dates, streaks, RTI™ category scores (numerical only), sponsor connection status (yes/no), and general participation status. Organizations can NEVER access: journal text, assessment answers, Fourth Step entries, messages, gratitude lists, AI narrative analyses, or any free-text content you enter. You must provide explicit consent before any data is shared with an Organization. You may leave an Organization at any time through Settings, which immediately revokes their access to your data.
The App collects precise GPS location data to verify meeting attendance and enable geofencing features. Location data is: • Collected only when location services are enabled by the user • Used for meeting clock-in/clock-out verification • Stored securely in our database linked to your user account • Shared with your sponsor or organization only if you have enabled location sharing • Never sold to third parties or used for advertising You can disable location sharing at any time through your app settings.
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time through Settings, which will permanently remove your personal data from our systems. Upon account deletion, any Organization that had access to your participation data will immediately lose that access. Some aggregated, de-identified data may be retained for analytics purposes after account deletion. Specifically, account deletion permanently removes: • Your profile, account credentials, and authentication record • Journal entries, gratitude lists, and AI insights • Check-in selections and history • Weekly assessment responses and RTI™ scores • Fourth Step inventory (resentments, fears, sex inventory, sane/sound) • Sponsor and sponsee connection history • Direct messages with sponsors, sponsees, and group members • Meeting attendance records and GPS location history • Push notification tokens and preferences • Organization membership records Deletion is initiated by the user through Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing contact@transparencytechnologies.ai. Deletion completes within 30 days of the request.
We use browser localStorage to cache: draft journal entries, draft assessment answers, weekly schedule data, defect/fear analysis results, and AI score caches. This data is stored locally on your device. We use Supabase session cookies for authentication. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
The App is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that we have collected data from a minor, we will take steps to delete that information.
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Database access is restricted via Supabase Row Level Security and service role keys. The App implements automatic session timeout (15-minute inactivity logout), background content blur protection, and print blocking to protect your privacy. Organization dashboard access is restricted to authenticated Organization administrators only. All API endpoints enforce role-based access controls to ensure Organizations can only access permitted participation data for their consenting clients.
• Access: You can view all your data within the App • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data through Settings • Portability: You can export your Fourth Step inventory as a PDF • Opt-out: You can revoke sponsor access, leave any Organization, and withdraw newsletter consent at any time • Correction: You can edit your personal information through the App at any time • Consent Withdrawal: You can withdraw consent for Organization data sharing at any time by leaving the Organization through Settings
